Warning: Is Smoking Hypnotherapy Really A Miracle Cure?

When it comes to smoking and cessation of smoking, there is alas, not one single miracle cure, or else it is likely that anyone who smokes would use the ‘cure’ and rid themselves of this dangerous and quite expensive habit. However, smoking hypnotherapy is a really powerful weapon in the fight against smoking and that is why so many clients find smoking hypnotherapy useful when it comes to stopping smoking.

The reason why smoking hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure is actually related to the client themselves. If the client genuinely and sincerely wants to stop smoking, then smoking hypnotherapy can be as near to a miracle cure as you can get.

If, on the other hand, the client is not wholly committed to stopping smoking, then the smoking hypnotherapy is unlikely to be as successful.

This may seem irrational, after all, who would want to carry on smoking? Yet there are instances where someone will say that they wish to stop smoking, but in fact, they are not being wholly honest.

If a client is being pressurised into stopping smoking, then they may resent this at some level. So if they have entered into a new relationship, but the other person is saying that they ought to stop smoking, then they may be doing it for the wrong reasons; they are doing it to please someone else, not for themselves. When a client is not wholly behind the principle of stopping smoking, then they are much more likely not to find smoking hypnotherapy useful.

Where there is a full commitment to smoking cessation, then smoking hypnotherapy can be extremely useful and can really help overcome cravings.

Cravings and Smoking Cessation

One of the most common experiences after stopping smoking using either nicotine replacement therapy or simply stopping smoking is the experience of cravings. The nicotine receptors in the brain that have become used to being ‘fed’ by nicotine are deprived and they let the brain know! This results in a craving for a cigarette. The craving is nothing more than an intense desire for a cigarette and it is discomfort, but not life threatening.

It feels bad though and although cravings only last a couple of minutes, it can feel like much longer to the person who is having the craving. Often the cravings are brought about by association. If you are used to having a cigarette with a cup of coffee, then whenever you have a cup of coffee, you may experience a strong desire for a cigarette. If you had a cigarette when you got in from work, or with a glass of wine, then again you will feel the need whenever you come home from work or have that glass of wine.

With smoking hypnotherapy the sub-conscious mind is worked on, to help reduce the desire to smoke and if the sub-conscious is not demanding nicotine, then there are fewer cravings, if any at all. The mind set has changed, so previously the mind demanded nicotine; now it isn’t bothered!

In this sense, smoking hypnotherapy is extremely useful, because it is the cravings that cause so many people who are trying to stop smoking, to fall off the wagon and start it again. Through using smoking hypnotherapy to reduce the cravings, there is a much greater chance of success.

Thus it would not be appropriate to claim that smoking hypnotherapy is a ‘miracle cure’. It really can only help people who want to stop smoking and who are stopping smoking for themselves, but it is certainly a very useful aid to ensure that you can break free from that smoking habit and live a smoke free life.
