Quit smoking hypnotists are not all the same. There are some ok quit smoking hypnotists, some who are very good and some who are great. So what makes a great quit smoking hypnotist? Is it just about the numbers of people that they have helped to stop smoking, is it about the numbers of people who have stayed non-smokers after some time? Or are there other things that you should be looking for in a great quit smoking hypnotist? Well here are 4 signs that you should look for when choosing a hypnotist to help you stop smoking:
Non-judgemental approach:
When you visit a stop smoking or quit smoking hypnotist, you should not be judged. There is nothing worse for a client than to sit there and be made to feel worthless or disgusting for smoking. Smoking is undoubtedly a ‘bad’ habit and it is injurious to health, but no quit smoking hypnotist has the right to judge you, or to make you feel as if you are a bad person because you smoke. You have come to see the smoking hypnotist because you want help, not because you want to be subjected to negative emotions. A great quit smoking hypnotist is a composite professional, who will seek to help you, but certainly not judge you!
1. A holistic approach:
A great quit smoking hypnotist will work with you to discover something about your smoking. Not just how many you smoke a day, but also what are your triggers? What makes you smoke? When did it start? This helps to paint a picture of why you smoke and then the quit smoking hypnotist can work with you to ensure that you stop smoking. Understanding why something is done can help us to undo it, which is why this is so important.
2. A joint approach:
Any great hypnotist will adopt a joint approach to working with clients. We do not have a magic wand to wave around. We do not have a spell to cast on you. Instead we can work with you to help you break free from smoking cigarettes and can really help you to feel that you enjoy life without cigarettes.
3. A knowing approach:
A ‘knowing’ approach does sound strange, but it is actually a really good way to describe the rather intangible quality that a great stop smoking hypnotist needs to have! The hypnotist needs to know how you feel. They need to know that you may have fears about life without cigarettes, to understand that life without cigarettes may seem like a really scary proposition.
4. A great stop smoking hypnotist will also know that you have probably heard all the bad things about smoking and you are, on some level, annoyed and angry with yourself for smoking. This is referred to as cognitive dissonance; you have a conflict. You want to stop smoking, but part of you doesn’t want to stop smoking. When you smoke, part of you wants to stop the smoking. This conflict is difficult to handle and your hypnotist needs to be aware of this.
They also need to know that you will have heard all about the cravings that you get after you stop smoking and that you may well be terrified of them.
So when you are looking for a quit smoking hypnotist, by all means ask them their success rate for helping people to quit smoking, but ensure that the hypnotist also has the right approach, because this will ensure that you have not just a good, but a great quit smoking hypnotist!
